After the hot July and wet August we had this summer, we may all be looking forward to the fall, and MARTA has lots in store this autumn! Our spring activities were lots of fun and the pictures page shows it.
We are happy to welcome our 90 new members – the 2024 retirees. Our Ice Cream Socials are held in early September to meet our new members. MARTA is dedicated to doing 3 things: keeping retired educators in touch with one another, providing opportunities to stay active and learn new things, and providing scholarships to future teachers. It’s nice to see friends who retired before you, but also to make new friends. Spouses and guests are always welcome to our offerings.
Our scholarship breakfast in May was uplifting as usual – an opportunity to meet our four winners and hear their plans for the future. We thank all our members who generously supported the scholarship fund. More details about the winners on the Scholarship page.
We continue our opportunities to get together and eat: The first Wednesday of the month, all are welcome to Eduardo’s in Salisbury Mills. In October, we will again be having our Fall Luncheon at Delancey’s in Goshen, where we also will have our elections for President, 2nd Vice President and Corresponding Secretary. In December, we will have our Holiday Party at Christopher’s Bistro in Chester.
We have some openings on the Board. I’ve said this before, but it is still true: joining the MARTA Board was the best thing I could have done in retirement. There is nothing I could have spent my time on that would have been more rewarding or fun. At the end of the day, it is very satisfying to feel like you accomplished something. And I’ve made so many new friends and stayed close to old ones! It is membership time. Remember to send in your membership form and scholarship contribution as soon as possible. We hope to see you soon!
We are seeking assistance from the membership to fill the following open positions:
We are still looking for a new co-president, whose term would start in October 2024. If you enjoy working with great people and serving great people, then this is the job for you! "Co" means sharing the work and it would not be a large workload.
Activity committee members to plan new outings for the membership.
Website Backup Person – someone who enjoyed creating their own webpage while teaching. It’s a small-time commitment. We'd like to increase our Facebook postings.
If you are a retiree from an Orange County school district, and are not a member of MARTA, just fill out the membership form and send your dues as soon as possible, so we can add you to our membership and you can start having fun!
If interested in any of the positions, please contact us.
